The Hempen Hill BBQ is open Monday through Thursday 11AM – 9PM and Friday and Saturday from 11AM – 10PM. Ample off street parking is available and reservations are recommended for peak times. While the American Livestock Breeds Conservatory lists the Black Hog as endangered, with fewer than 300 breeding hogs registered, the Black Hog restaurant is easy to find and well worth the trip. Located at 118 South Market Street in Frederick and in the Urbana Village Center in Ijamsville, MD the Black Hog offers some of the finest barbeque we’ve tasted.

The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 11AM to 10PM. Whether you’re looking for Beef Brisket, Arkansas Beef BBQ, Pork Shoulder, Carolina BBQ, Pit Ham, or Smoked Beef Sausage you’ll find it here. They offer sandwiches and meat by the pound as well as ribs and burgers. And what BBQ would be complete without hot wings? Yes, they have those too. The dry rub is absolutely out of this world, very flavorful and you won’t make a mess of yourself eating them.

We have been to the Black Hog numerous times and each time it has been full of patrons and the food has been spot on. The prices are very reasonable as well. For less than $10 you will get more than enough food to fill you up and keep you looking forward to the next trip. If you find yourself in Frederick Md and craving BBQ give the Black Hog a try. Just be careful, it’s addictive.

Gettysburg, PA

If you have ever considered traveling to Gettysburg, PA to learn more about the American Civil War this summer will be a great time to go. Last year Gettysburg began a 5 year schedule of activities surrounding the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Gettysburg is quite a unique town and there is plenty to do for all members of the family. Outside of the historical aspect of town, with the shops, tours, bed and breakfasts, and photo opportunities, you’ll find plenty of things to do to stay busy. Gettysburg hosts their own outlet malls on the edge of town. There’s a local college which means plenty of great places to eat, like Tommy’s Pizza and General Pickett’s Buffet. There’s Battlefield Harley-Davidson if you’re riding in. And the kids will enjoy the Land of the Little Horses.

July 6-8 is the reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg at the National Military Park

Why we love Fatheads in Pittsburgh, PA

First off, let me clarify, I love Pittsburgh. Every bit of it. When my family gets the option of going to the beach, or to Pittsburgh, it’s Pittsburgh every time. So we may be a little biased. Maybe. Steelers (Stillers) fans? Check. Pirates? Check. Pens? Check.

We love the Strip District and Station Square. We love the architecture and the best group of blue collar, hard working people we have ever met. But every trip inevitably ends up at Fatheads. Usually its after a day at Sandcastle water park. All day in the sun then we’re off for a sandwich the size of the Great Gazoo’s space ship.

If you haven’t been I encourage you to go. They’re located at 1805 Carson Street on the South Side and ample street parking is usually available. Plus they offer over 40 craft-brewed beers on tap. But the star of the show, for us at least, are the sandwiches. If you’re lucky you’ll be able to hoist half of one up for a bite. And if you somehow are able to unhinge your jaw, that’d be helpful too. The only thing that surpasses the enormous size is the amazing taste. Everything is made fresh when you order. You’re not going to get yesterday’s mystery meat on your Frisbee sized roll.

Stop by the next time you’re in Pittsburgh. Check out the upstairs shop for a little swag. Then sit down for one of the best meals in the Steel City.

Planit Meetings contributing to help Indiana tornado relief
